Physio Pilates in Narellan. Small Group, Physio-Led Classes

Movement is one of the most powerful tools for recovery and long-term health. And when Pilates is guided by a qualified physiotherapist, it becomes something even more effective.

Physio pilates (also called clinical pilates) is a physiotherapy-led exercise program that uses targeted Pilates principles and equipment to address your specific injuries, movement patterns, and goals. It’s backed by research, individualised to your body, and delivered by practitioners who understand anatomy and rehabilitation inside and out.

At Bounce Back Physio in Narellan, our physio-led Pilates classes are run with a maximum of six participants, giving you the focused, hands-on attention your body needs to get real results.

Trusted by over 400 local families every week, Bounce Back Physio has been serving the Macarthur region for 14 years. Our clinical pilates classes are just one part of our fully integrated, multidisciplinary approach to getting you moving well again.

What Is Physio Pilates?

Physio Pilates combines the movement principles of classical Pilates with the clinical knowledge of physiotherapy. Unlike a general fitness class, every exercise in a physio pilates session is prescribed by a qualified physiotherapist based on your individual assessment.

That means the exercises you’re doing are specifically chosen to target your weak areas, address your past injuries, correct your movement patterns, and reduce your risk of re-injury. Nothing is generic. Everything has a reason.

Physio pilates is also known as clinical pilates or clinical exercise, and at Bounce Back Physio it sits under our Clinical Exercise and Reformer Studio Rehab program, run out of our fully equipped studio.

Physio Pilates vs Regular Pilates - What's the Difference?

Regular reformer pilates classes at a studio can be fantastic for general fitness, strength, and flexibility. But if you have an injury, chronic pain, or a specific movement goal, there’s an important difference.

  • Regular pilates: Run by a pilates instructor (not a physio), general program, larger group sizes, classes not based on a clinical assessment.
  • Physio pilates: Run by a qualified physiotherapist, an individualised program built from your one-on-one assessment, maximum 6 participants per class, exercises targeted to your body and goals. Eligible for private health fund rebates under physiotherapy.

At Bounce Back, our physios have completed additional training in clinical pilates. They’re not just running you through a sequence; they’re watching your form, adapting your program as you progress, and making sure every movement is working for your body.

How Our Physio Pilates Classes Work

Before joining any class, every participant at Bounce Back completes a one-on-one pre-class assessment with one of our physiotherapists. This isn’t just a formality; it’s where we get to know your body.

1

Your Pre-Class Physio Assessment

In your initial assessment, your physio will:

  • Take a thorough history of your injuries, symptoms, and health goals
  • Assess your posture, movement patterns, and muscle imbalances
  • Introduce you to the studio and equipment
  • Use real-time ultrasound imaging (where appropriate) to assess your deep core muscles
  • Design your individual exercise program

This assessment ensures every exercise we prescribe is working toward something specific, and that you walk into your first class with confidence.

Small Group Classes (Max 6 Participants)

Our Clinical Exercise and Reformer classes run with a maximum of six people. That’s intentional. A small class means your physio can watch your technique closely, correct you in real time, and progress your program as your strength and movement quality improve.

Your program is tailored to you, so even in a group setting, what you’re doing may look quite different from the person beside you. That’s the point.

Our Pilates Class Options

We offer two physio-led class formats from our studio:

  1. Studio Rehab: A progressive class combining core strength and mobility work using mat and reformer equipment. Ideal for those moving from early rehabilitation into building long-term resilience. We also offer a specialised Mums and Bubs class within our Studio Rehab stream, for postnatal mums. These classes are designed to support safe return to exercise after having a baby, and bubs are welcome to join.
  2. Pelvic Floor Rehab: A 30-minute mat-based class focused on deep core activation, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and controlled movement. Particularly popular with women managing pelvic floor dysfunction, postpartum recovery, or low back pain.

The Equipment We Use

Our studio is equipped with:

  • Reformer
  • Wunda Chair
  • Trapeze Table
  • Therabands
  • Swiss Balls
  • Hand weights and small equipment

Your physio will select the equipment and resistance that’s right for your stage of recovery and fitness level, then progress it as you get stronger.

Private Health Fund Rebates

Because our clinical pilates classes are run by physiotherapists, they’re eligible for private health insurance rebates if you have physiotherapy cover.

This makes physio pilates a genuinely cost-effective choice compared to general studio classes, especially when you factor in the individualised program and clinical oversight.

Conditions That Commonly Benefit From Physio Pilates

Our clinical pilates classes are frequently used to help manage and rehabilitate a range of conditions, including:

  • Lower back pain and disc injuries
  • Neck pain and postural issues
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction and incontinence
  • Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain
  • Postnatal recovery and abdominal separation (DRAM)
  • Hip, knee and ankle injuries

Why Choose Bounce Back Physio for Clinical Pilates in Narellan?

There are plenty of pilates options in the Macarthur region. Here’s what makes ours different.

It’s fully physio-led. Every class is run by a qualified physiotherapist, not a pilates instructor or PT. That means clinical knowledge in the room at all times.

Maximum six participants. We keep classes small on purpose. Your physio can see you, correct you, and progress you in every session.

Integrated with the whole team. Your pilates program doesn’t exist in isolation. Our physios, osteos, chiros, exercise physiologists and women’s health practitioners share ideas and coordinate care. If your physio spots something in class that needs to be addressed in a one-on-one treatment, they’ll tell you.

Individual programs within group classes. You’re not following a one-size program. Everyone in the class is working through their own tailored exercise sequence.

Real assessment, real results. Your pre-class assessment using real-time ultrasound gives your physio an objective look at how your deep core muscles are actually functioning, not just how it looks from the outside.

Physio Pilates FAQ

What is physio pilates?

Physio pilates (also known as clinical pilates) is a physiotherapy-led exercise program that uses Pilates principles and equipment to target your specific injuries, movement patterns, and goals. Unlike general pilates classes, every exercise is prescribed by a qualified physiotherapist based on a one-on-one clinical assessment.

Regular reformer pilates is a general fitness class run by a pilates instructor, typically in larger groups, with no clinical assessment. Physio pilates is run by a qualified physiotherapist, limited to a maximum of four participants, and based on an individual assessment. It’s eligible for private health fund rebates under physiotherapy cover.

Not at all. Many of our participants are in our classes simply because they want to move better, prevent future injury, or build a more resilient core. You don’t need a current injury to benefit from physio-led pilates.

Yes, because our classes are run by qualified physiotherapists, they’re claimable under physiotherapy with most private health funds (subject to your policy).

Before joining a class, all new participants complete a one-on-one pre-class assessment with one of our physios. They’ll take your history, assess your movement and posture, introduce you to the equipment, and design your individual program. Your first class follows from there.

Yes, with appropriate assessment and modifications. We offer a dedicated Mums and Bubs class for postnatal participants, and our Women’s Health physios can advise on safe exercise throughout pregnancy. Always let your physio know if you’re pregnant so they can adapt your program accordingly.

Our classes are fully physio-led, capped at four participants, and integrated with our broader multidisciplinary team of physios, osteos, chiros, exercise physiologists, and women’s health practitioners. We also use real-time ultrasound imaging in assessments to objectively assess deep core function, something most clinics don’t offer.
