Chiropractor Service: Spinal Adjustments & Whole-Body Wellbeing
Not Sure Whether to Book Chiropractic or Physiotherapy?
For many conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, sports injuries and joint pain, physiotherapy and chiropractic can both be appropriate treatment options. At Bounce Back, physiotherapy is our primary service and is often the best starting point for people looking for a combination of hands-on treatment, exercise rehabilitation and long-term recovery support.
If chiropractic care is the most appropriate option, we’ll guide you there. If physiotherapy is likely to deliver better outcomes, we’ll recommend that instead. Because our chiropractors and physiotherapists work as one team, you’ll always be directed to the practitioner best suited to your goals.

Chiropractic Care in Narellan
Looking for a chiropractor service near you? Bounce Back Physio’s AHPRA-registered chiropractors deliver hands-on spinal adjustments, joint mobilisation and whole-body wellbeing care, all under the one roof as part of a multidisciplinary allied health team.
Chiropractic care is more than spinal adjustments. Our chiropractors assess the entire body: spine, joints, muscles and nervous system, to find the underlying cause of pain or restricted movement, not just chase the symptom. The result is a treatment plan built around your wellbeing, your goals and the way you move every day.
Whether you’re dealing with a stubborn lower back, a stiff neck, recurring headaches or a sports injury that won’t settle, our team works alongside our physios, osteopaths, exercise physiologists and psychologists to give you joined-up care. If your condition needs more than an adjustment, your chiropractor can refer you across the team without you starting over.
What Is a Chiropractor and What Does Our Chiropractor Service Involve?
Chiropractic is a regulated allied health profession focused on the assessment, diagnosis and hands-on treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Particularly those involving the spine, joints, muscles and nervous system. The term comes from the Greek *cheir* (hand) and *praktikos* (done), meaning “treatment done by hand”.
In Australia, all chiropractors must complete a five-year accredited university degree and register with the Chiropractic Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Like physiotherapists, registered psychologists and other allied health professionals, chiropractors are required to maintain ongoing professional development and carry mandatory insurance to keep practising.

What Does a Chiropractor Do?
A chiropractor uses a combination of hands-on techniques, exercise prescription and education to treat the cause of your pain, not just the symptom. Common techniques include:
- Chiropractic adjustments (also called spinal manipulation): controlled, targeted movements applied to a joint to restore movement and reduce pain
- Mobilisation: slower, rhythmic joint movements to free up stiffness without a quick thrust
- Soft tissue therapy: massage, trigger-point release and myofascial work for tight muscles and connective tissue
- Rehabilitation exercises: progressive movement and strength programs to support long-term recovery
- Ergonomic and postural advice: guidance on how you sit, stand, sleep, lift and train
- Lifestyle and movement education: clear explanations of what’s going on and how to manage it day to day
Conditions Our Chiropractors Treat
Our chiropractors treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions across all ages and activity levels. Common reasons people see our chiro team include:
Back Pain and Sciatica
Lower back pain, mid-back stiffness, disc-related pain, sciatica, postural pain from desk work, and chronic spinal conditions. Our chiropractors assess the entire spine and surrounding joints, not just the painful segment.
Neck Pain and Whiplash
Neck stiffness, postural neck pain, whiplash from motor vehicle accidents, and cervical-origin headaches. Treatment combines manual therapy, mobilisation and exercise rehabilitation.
Headaches and Migraines
Tension headaches, cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck), and migraines with a musculoskeletal component. We assess whether stiffness, posture or muscle tension in the neck and upper back may be contributing.
Jaw (TMJ) Pain
TMJ dysfunction, jaw clicking, jaw stiffness and associated headaches. Our chiros work on the joints and muscles around the jaw, neck and upper spine.
Joint, Sports and Overuse Injuries
Shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and elbow injuries from sport, work or daily life. We treat acute strains and sprains, tendinopathies, repetitive strain injuries and return-to-sport rehabilitation.
Postural and Desk-Related Pain
Upper back stiffness, rounded shoulder posture, tech neck and lower back tightness from long hours at a desk. We treat the existing pain and give you a clear plan to prevent it returning.
Pregnancy and Postnatal Care
Pelvic and lower back pain in pregnancy, postural changes, rib and mid-back pain, and postnatal recovery. Treatment is gentle, pregnancy-appropriate and coordinated with our women’s health physiotherapists where needed.
Children and Adolescents
Growing pains, postural concerns, sports injuries and movement screening for active kids and teens. Our chiropractors treat children and adolescents using techniques and pressures appropriate to their age and stage.
Chiropractor Spinal Adjustments Explained
Chiropractor spinal adjustments (also called spinal manipulation) are one of the most well-known techniques our chiropractors use. An adjustment is a controlled, targeted movement applied to a specific joint in the spine, designed to restore movement, reduce pain and improve how the surrounding muscles and nerves function.
Here’s what a spinal adjustment actually involves at our chiropractor service:
- Precise assessment first: your chiropractor identifies the exact joint or segment that needs treatment, never a generic “crack everything” approach
- A small, fast movement within the joint’s normal range, not a forceful or violent action
- Often a popping or clicking sound caused by gas bubbles releasing inside the joint (this is normal and not a sign of bones “cracking”)
- Immediate range-of-motion improvement for most people, with reduced muscle tension around the treated area
- Always optional: if you would prefer not to have an adjustment, your chiropractor will use mobilisation, soft tissue or instrument-assisted techniques instead
Spinal adjustments work best as part of a broader plan that includes exercise rehabilitation, postural work and lifestyle advice. Our chiropractors won’t recommend ongoing adjustments without a clear goal, and care is always reviewed at regular intervals to track progress and step you down when you’ve hit your milestones.

Our Wellbeing-Led Chiropractor Service
Bounce Back’s chiropractor service is built around a wellbeing-led model of care. That means we’re not just trying to crack your back and send you on your way; our chiropractors work as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on your whole-body health, your movement and your long-term function. Most of our patients see more than one practitioner at some stage of their care.
Here’s what “wellbeing-led chiropractic care” looks like in practice:
- Whole-body assessment rather than a single-segment focus, we’re looking for the cause, not just chasing the symptom
- Shared notes across practitioners, with your permission, so you don’t have to repeat your story or your scans
- Easy hand-offs if your condition would benefit from physio, EP, group-based rehab or clinical pilates as well – same clinic, same team, same plan
- Studio and gym access on site for supervised rehab and exercise progression where needed
• Lifestyle, ergonomic and movement guidance alongside hands-on care, because wellbeing isn’t built in the clinic, it’s built in how you live between appointments
What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Appointment
If you have never seen a chiropractor before, here is what your first visit to Bounce Back will look like.
1
Detailed History and Assessment
Your chiropractor will take a full history of your symptoms, medical background, lifestyle and goals, including previous injuries, surgeries, scans and any other practitioners you’re seeing. From there, they’ll guide you through a physical assessment of your posture, movement and how your body is loading and functioning day to day. It’s a hands-on process, but everything is explained as they go so you understand what’s being looked at and why.
Hands-On Physical Examination
Your chiro will assess your posture, spinal movement, joint range, strength and any neurological signs relevant to your condition. If imaging is needed, your chiro will refer you for X-rays or other scans.
2
3
Clear Diagnosis and Explanation
Once the assessment is complete, your chiropractor will explain what’s going on in plain English, what is likely causing your symptoms, what the recovery process looks like and what treatment options are available. You will always have the chance to ask questions and consent before any hands-on treatment begins.
Treatment
Most first appointments include some hands-on treatment so you can start feeling improvement immediately. This may involve adjustments, mobilisation, soft tissue release, dry needling or other techniques appropriate to your condition. Treatment is always tailored to your tolerance and preferences. If you would prefer not to have an adjustment, your chiro will use other techniques.
4
5
A Clear Plan Forward
You will leave with a clear plan including how many sessions are likely needed, exercises to do at home, and what milestones to aim for. Care is goal-driven; once you reach your goals, we step you down to maintenance or finish care.
Chiropractic vs Physiotherapy: What’s the Difference?
In practice, chiropractors and physiotherapists treat many of the same musculoskeletal conditions and often use similar hands-on techniques. The biggest difference is that physiotherapy typically places a greater emphasis on exercise rehabilitation, strength building, injury prevention and long-term function.
At Bounce Back, many patients choose physiotherapy as their primary treatment pathway, with chiropractic care used where spinal manipulation or additional hands-on treatment may be beneficial. Our practitioners work together to ensure you receive the right care at the right time.

Is Chiropractic Safe?
Chiropractic care provided by an AHPRA-registered chiropractor is widely considered safe when delivered after a proper assessment and with appropriate technique. Serious adverse events are uncommon. The most frequent side effects are mild and short-lived, typically muscle soreness or stiffness for 12 to 48 hours after an adjustment, similar to the soreness you might feel after a gym session.
Before treatment, your chiropractor will ask about conditions that can affect technique choice, including osteoporosis, arthritis, hypermobility, bleeding disorders, recent fractures and any neurological symptoms. If any of these apply, your chiro will adapt or avoid certain techniques and use gentler approaches such as mobilisation or soft tissue therapy instead of adjustments. If at any point chiropractic care is not the right fit, our chiros will refer you across to physio, your GP or a specialist.

Chroproactic FAQ
Should I see a chiropractor or physiotherapist?
For most people, physiotherapy is an excellent starting point. Physiotherapists treat many of the same conditions as chiropractors, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, sports injuries and joint pain, while also providing exercise-based rehabilitation and long-term management strategies. If chiropractic care is likely to benefit your condition, our team can guide you accordingly.
What is chiropractic and how does it work?
Chiropractic is a regulated allied health profession that uses hands-on techniques to assess, diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those involving the spine, joints, muscles and nervous system. Chiropractors use a combination of adjustments (spinal manipulation), mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, exercise prescription and ergonomic advice to relieve pain, restore movement and help your body function better.
Is a chiropractor a doctor?
Chiropractors are not medical doctors. They are university-qualified, AHPRA-registered allied health professionals who complete a five-year accredited chiropractic degree. While some chiropractors use the title “Dr” in a clinical setting (as do dentists, pharmacists and other registered health professionals), they are not medical practitioners and do not prescribe medication or perform surgery.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic care provided by an AHPRA-registered chiropractor is widely considered safe when delivered after a proper assessment. The most common side effects are mild and short-lived, typically muscle soreness for 12 to 48 hours after an adjustment. Your chiropractor will ask about any conditions that might affect technique choice, such as osteoporosis, arthritis or bleeding disorders, and will adapt or avoid certain techniques where appropriate.
Does chiropractic work?
There is good evidence for chiropractic care in managing common musculoskeletal conditions, particularly lower back pain, neck pain and certain types of headaches. Outcomes depend on your specific condition, how long you have had it and how consistently you follow your plan. Your chiropractor will give you an honest expectation of what is likely to help after your initial assessment.
What is the difference between a chiropractor and a physiotherapist?
Both chiropractors and physiotherapists are AHPRA-registered allied health professionals who treat musculoskeletal conditions, but their training and emphasis differ. Chiropractors are particularly known for spinal adjustments, joint manipulation and biomechanical assessment. Physiotherapists have a broader scope across musculoskeletal, neurological and post-surgical conditions, with greater emphasis on exercise rehabilitation. At Bounce Back, our chiros and physios work side by side.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No referral is needed for private chiropractic appointments. A referral or care plan is only required if you are claiming through Medicare (with a Chronic Disease Management plan), DVA or WorkCover. NDIS participants can book directly with an approved plan.
How much does a chiropractor cost?
Fees vary by clinic and appointment type. Initial chiropractic appointments are usually longer (and therefore more expensive) than follow-up sessions because of the time needed for a thorough assessment. Most private health funds offer rebates on chiropractic care, and Medicare rebates may be available through a Chronic Disease Management plan. Contact our reception for current fees and to check what your health fund will cover.
How long is a chiropractic appointment?
Initial chiropractic appointments at Bounce Back are typically 60 minutes to allow time for a thorough history, examination, diagnosis, treatment and exercise prescription. Follow-up sessions are usually 30 minutes.
How many chiropractic sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and your individual recovery goals. Some acute conditions respond in just a few sessions, while chronic or complex conditions may benefit from longer-term care. Your chiropractor will give you a clear estimate after your initial assessment, and care is goal-driven, once you reach your goals, we step down or finish care.
What does a spinal adjustment from a chiropractor actually do?
A chiropractor spinal adjustment is a controlled, targeted movement applied to a specific joint in the spine. It’s designed to restore movement, reduce pain and improve how the surrounding muscles and nerves function. Adjustments are precise (not forceful), are based on a thorough assessment, and are only one of several techniques our chiropractors use. If you would prefer not to have an adjustment, your chiro will use mobilisation, soft tissue or instrument-assisted techniques instead.
Can chiropractors treat children?
Yes. Our chiropractors treat children and adolescents for conditions including postural concerns, growing pains, sports injuries and movement screening. Techniques and pressures used are appropriate to the child’s age and stage, and treatment is always done with the parent or guardian present.
