Expert Hands-On Care to Get You Moving
Physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare profession that uses hands-on treatment, exercise prescription and education to help you recover from injury, manage pain and move better. Pain, injury and restricted movement affect everything you do, and the right physiotherapy plan is one of the most effective, evidence-based ways to recover, regain function and prevent the same problem from coming back.
Our team at Bounce Back has been delivering hands-on physiotherapy for over 14 years, treating more than 400 people every week across our multidisciplinary clinic. Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, preparing for surgery or rehabilitating afterwards, our physiotherapists give you structured treatment and clear education so you know exactly what to do at every stage.

What Is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare profession focused on restoring movement, function and quality of life. Physiotherapists assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory conditions using evidence-based techniques. The goal is to relieve pain, improve mobility, build strength and help you return to the activities that matter to you.
In Australia, all physiotherapists must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and complete a university degree in physiotherapy. You do not need a referral from your GP to see a physiotherapist, although a referral may be required if you are claiming through Medicare, DVA or WorkCover.

What does a physiotherapist do?
A physiotherapist uses a combination of hands-on treatment, exercise prescription and patient education to help you recover. Common techniques include:
- Manual therapy: joint mobilisation, soft tissue release and massage to reduce pain and improve movement
- Exercise prescription: tailored strength, mobility and stability programs designed for your specific condition
- Dry needling and acupuncture: targeted needling techniques to release muscle tension and reduce pain
- Taping and bracing: support for injured joints and muscles during recovery
- Education and self-management: clear explanations of your condition and what you can do at home
Postural and movement retraining: correcting the patterns that may be contributing to your pain
Conditions We Treat
Our physiotherapists treat a broad range of conditions across all ages and activity levels. Common presentations include:
Back, neck and spinal pain
Lower back pain, neck stiffness, sciatica, disc-related pain, postural pain from desk work, whiplash and chronic spinal conditions. We assess the entire spine and surrounding structures rather than just treating the symptom.
Joint and muscle injuries
Shoulder pain and rotator cuff injuries, knee pain and ligament injuries, hip pain, ankle sprains, tennis and golfer’s elbow, hamstring strains and calf tears.
Sports injuries and performance
Acute and overuse sports injuries, return-to-sport rehabilitation, ACL reconstruction recovery, tendinopathy management, shin splints, stress fractures and performance optimisation.
Headaches and jaw pain
Tension headaches, cervicogenic headaches, migraines with a musculoskeletal component, and TMJ (jaw) dysfunction.
Post-surgical rehabilitation
Structured rehab following joint replacements, ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, spinal surgery and other orthopaedic procedures, working closely with your surgeon’s protocol.
Chronic pain and long-term conditions
Persistent pain, arthritis, osteoporosis (including our certified Onero program), fibromyalgia and other long-term conditions that benefit from ongoing physiotherapy support.
Pregnancy and postnatal care
Pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain in pregnancy, pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, diastasis recti and postnatal recovery support, delivered by our women’s health physiotherapists.
Children and adolescents
Growing pains, postural concerns, sports injuries, coordination issues and developmental conditions, treated by our paediatric physiotherapy team.
What to Expect at Your First Physiotherapy Appointment
If you have never seen a physiotherapist before, here is what your first visit at Bounce Back Physio will look like.
1
Detailed assessment
Your physio will take a thorough history of your condition, ask about your goals, medical background and lifestyle, then perform a hands-on physical examination. This often includes assessing your movement, strength, flexibility and posture.
Clear diagnosis and explanation
Once the assessment is complete, your physio will explain what is going on in plain English, what is likely causing your symptoms, and what the recovery process looks like. You will leave understanding your condition rather than feeling confused.
2
3
Hands-on treatment
Most first appointments include some hands-on treatment so you start feeling improvement immediately. This may involve manual therapy, soft tissue release, dry needling or other techniques appropriate to your condition.
Personalised home program
Your physio will prescribe a tailored exercise and self-management program to do between appointments. Recovery is built on what you do outside the clinic, not just what happens inside it.
4
5
A clear plan forward
You will leave with a clear treatment plan including how many sessions are likely needed, what you should do at home, and what milestones to aim for.

Physiotherapy FAQ
What is physiotherapy and how does it work?
Physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare profession that uses hands-on treatment, exercise prescription and education to help you recover from injury, manage pain and improve movement. Your physio will assess your condition, identify what is causing your symptoms, and create a tailored treatment plan to help you return to the activities you enjoy.
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
No. In Australia, you do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist for private appointments. A referral is only required if you want to claim through Medicare (with an Enhanced Primary Care plan), DVA or WorkCover.
How long is a typical physiotherapy appointment?
Initial appointments at Bounce Back Physio are typically 45 to 60 minutes to allow time for a thorough assessment, diagnosis, hands-on treatment and home program prescription. Follow-up sessions are usually 30 minutes.
How many physio sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition, how long you have had it and your individual recovery goals. Some acute injuries respond in just a few sessions, while chronic or complex conditions may require longer-term care. Your physiotherapist will give you a clear estimate after your initial assessment.
What is the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?
Both are registered allied health professionals who treat musculoskeletal conditions, but their training and approach differ. Physiotherapists focus on movement rehabilitation, exercise prescription and a wide range of conditions including post-surgical care. Chiropractors specialise in spinal and joint adjustments. At Bounce Back Physio, our physios and chiros work together so you get the benefit of both approaches.
Do you treat children and teenagers?
Yes. Our paediatric physiotherapists treat children and adolescents for a range of conditions including sports injuries, growing pains, postural concerns and developmental conditions.
What should I wear to my first appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows your physio to assess the affected area. Shorts are ideal for lower limb injuries, and a singlet or loose top works well for upper body concerns. We have treatment gowns available if needed.
